Dear Wheatland High School District Community,
We are writing to inform you of an incident that occurred over the break that we believe is important to share with our school community, while also reassuring you about the safety of our campus.
During the break, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office was contacted after a father of a student from a different school reported that a Wheatland High School student had assaulted his daughter. The individual further stated that he intended to confront the student once school resumed and made threats indicating he would harm not only the student but anyone at the school who attempted to intervene.
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded and conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations. After careful review, the claims made against the Wheatland High School student were determined to be false.
Although the allegations were unfounded, the threats from the parent were taken very seriously. As a result of the investigation, the individual making the threats was arrested and booked into the Yuba County Jail. At no time were Wheatland High School students or staff in immediate danger, and the Sheriff’s Office has confirmed there is no ongoing threat to our campus.
Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of transparency, we felt it was important to notify our school community of this incident. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority, and we will always work closely with law enforcement to ensure our campus remains safe and secure.
We would also like to remind families that threats of violence or harm toward students or school staff are taken seriously and are a criminal offense. We encourage students and parents to report any concerning behavior or statements to school staff or law enforcement immediately.
Thank you for your continued trust, support, and partnership as we begin the new semester together. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at
nnewman@wheatlandhigh.org.
Educationally yours,
Nicole Newman, EdD
Superintendent

This week the WUHS After School Program hosted a 'Tiny Art for BIG Hearts' event. Students designed and painted over 60 canvases for the UC Davis Pediatric Cancer Center. These canvases were displayed in the halls of the hospital while patients came out of their rooms and chose a piece of artwork to keep forever. Spreading cheer and love to these incredible and heroic children was a blessing for our After School Program. PIRATE PROUD!

Hello Pirate Family and Future Pirates!
Please read the important message below:
Avoid an interdistrict process or a denial from your district of residence—District of Choice (DOC) applications ensure enrollment in WUHSD for grades 9–12. Once accepted, you do not need to reapply each year (if you were accepted last year and enrolled, you do not need to reapply).
Also, WUHSD will provide additional bus stops for District of Choice students in Yuba County only—bus locations to be determined (east of the bridge).
Note: Please complete the District of Choice application by December 31, 2025 if your plan is for your child to attend Wheatland High School as a freshman beginning next year (2026–27) or if your child currently attends another high school and you wish for them to attend WUHS for the 2026–27 school year.

Wheatland Union High School District (WUHSD) participates in California’s School District of Choice Program permitted by Education Code §§ 48300–48317 (SB 680, “School District of Choice”). Since WUHSD is a School District of Choice, any parent/guardian who does not live within WUHSD boundaries and is interested in their child attending WUHSD (grades 9–12) will not be required to obtain a release from their district of residence if they apply for—and are accepted to—our District of Choice program. In addition, once accepted, you will not need to complete paperwork each year to remain enrolled in WUHSD.
2026–27 District of Choice applications must be submitted between October 15, 2025, and no later than December 31, 2025. You do not need a release from your district of residence to apply and be accepted.
2026–27 District of Choice applications will not be accepted after December 31, 2025.
