Athletic Announcements

Attention all students: Spring is here, time to get in shape! The weight room will be open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the rest of the school year from 3:15-4:15. Come get in shape with Mr. Olsen!

Student Athletes: If you anticipate playing sports in college it is important to register with the NCAA Initial Eligibility Center. (Mr. Rasmussen)

General Announcements

Sadie Hawkins Dance: Did you have a blast at Courtwarming? Are you waiting for the next dance? Sadies is here!! The Sadie Hawkins Dance will be next Friday, March 19th from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. The cost is $5.00 for all tickets. It is a casual dance with a western theme. GIRLS ASK BOYS!! (Leadership)

Student ID Cards: Every Friday in the library with Mr. Shatswell – remember if you need a reprint of your student ID for first period bus transportation – YOU NEED TO GET TO THE LIBRARY AT LUNCH TODAY FOR A NEW STUDENT ID.  NO ID = NO TRANSPORTATION FOR 1ST PERIOD.

War of Worship: WHS Christian Club is throwing a huge competitive concert! The concert will consist of any genre of music you can think of. All bands are local up-and-coming bands. Admission is $5.00 – 100%of the admission collected will be donated to the Haitian Relief Effort. The WOW (War of Worship) will be in the WHS Cafeteria on Saturday, March 20th from 3:00 p.m. - ? Bring extra money for snacks, drinks, CD’S, shirts, etc. Pay Mrs. Embree, or pay at the door….but either way it’s only $5.00!! Questions see Mr. Durham or Cody Adams.

Counseling/Attendance Announcements

AP Civics: All students interested in taking the AP Government course please come to Room F-10 next Tuesday, March16th, at 12:50pm. (Mr. Soderlund)

AVID: If you would like to apply to be in AVID; pick up an application packet in the counseling office. Applications are due next Friday, March 19th. (Mrs. Winkel)

Beale AFB Summer Hire applications are now available.  There are vacancies for Lifeguard, Lead Recreation Aide, Clerk, and Laborer.  You may apply online at www.opm.gov.  You will also need a resume.  If you have any questions you may contact Rosie Gonzalez at 530-634-2249 or see Mrs. Agles.

Scholarship Information

See your Counselor for additional details.

Italian Catholic Federation. One of the many purposes of the Federation is to offer college scholarships to further the education of students who are Roman Catholic and of Italian descent (or whose non-Italian Roman Catholic parents, guardians, or grandparents are members of the Federation).  Applicants are reviewed and judged by the scholarship committee for the selection of scholarship winners.  A GPA of at least 3.2 must be maintained by the students. Deadline: this Monday, March 15, 2010.

Mary M. Aaron Memorial Trust Scholarship Fund. Any deserving student who is in need of financial assistance in order to complete their college education is eligible, regardless of grades or participation in school activities. There must be a family financial insufficiency in order to qualify. Open only to Yuba and Sutter County residents who will be attending colleges or universities located within California. Deadline: this Monday, March 15, 2010.

2010 Education Exchange College Grant Program. A total of 34 college grants will be awarded, as follows: Four (4) $5,000 grant recipients and Thirty (30) $1,000 grant recipients. Applicants will be selected based on:

· Scholastic achievement (e.g. AP/Honors classes, grade point average, SAT or ACT scores)
· Character and leadership (e.g. extra-curricular involvement, honors, awards, achievements, personal references)
· Essay responses (communication skills, personal insight)
· Financial need (Total household income not to exceed $125,000)

Applications available at Gold Country Bank (519 D Street, Marysville). Deadline: this Monday, March 15, 2010.

Beale Officers' Spouses Club. A minimum of $10,000 in scholarships will be distributed this year. Awards must be used at an accredited college, university, vocational/technical or trade school for tuition, books, room, board, or other related educational fees. See application packet for eligibility requirements. Deadline: March 19, 2010.

Calcot-Seitz Foundation. Offering scholarships up to $3,000 each, payable over a two to three-year period, for students who major in agriculture at a four-year school. Potential recipients are screened for scholastic aptitude and performance, leadership potential, demonstrated capability and financial need. Deadline: March 31, 2010.

U.S. Bank Internet Scholarship Program. Over the last thirteen years, this program has awarded over $350,000 in scholarships to college-bound high school seniors. This year U.S. Bank will increase awards from thirty to forty $1,000 scholarships. High school seniors planning to enroll next fall at an eligible four-year college or university participating in the U.S. Bank No Fee Education Loan Program are eligible to apply. Scholarship award recipients are selected through a random drawing process. Further details, including college or university eligibility, can be found at www.usbank.com/studentloans. Deadline March 31, 2010.

Sierra Central Scholarship Program.  Ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who plan to enroll or are working towards a business major, business related major or technology major.  The recipients are determined by a panel of judges based on the completion and quality of a biography questionnaire, essay, grade point average, demonstrated leadership skills and active participation in a variety of school and community activities.  For details about the program or to request an application package, go to Sierra Central Scholarship ProgramDeadline: April 1, 2010.

Sherry Hall Scholarship Fund of Rideout Hospital Auxiliary. Applicant must be entering the medical care profession (this does not include veterinarian, hospital administration or medical secretaries), a permanent resident of Yuba or Sutter county and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.  Deadline: March 31, 2010.

The John J. & Freda C. Monnot Scholarship Fund. Applicant must graduate from a high school located within Yuba or Sutter County and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. The recipient must provide proof of enrollment in at least 12 academic units per semester during the year of the scholarship award, an equivalent number of academic units per quarter if on a quarterly based system, or the full time participation in a trade school curriculum. If you are a student who qualifies in all other respects and enrolled in less than 12 academic units per semester, the committee will accept your application and consider the extenuating circumstances that preclude your "full-time" enrollment. Awards range in value from $100 to $5,000.  Deadline: April 1, 2010.

California Wine Grape Growers Foundation (CWGGF). A scholarship program especially for children of vineyard employees. Each year the CWGGF awards at least two four-year scholarships worth $4,000 and four two-year scholarships worth $1,000. Students may study the subject of their choice at any campus within the UC system, CSU system or California Community College system. Deadline: April 2, 2010.

American Iris Society Region 14. A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to a student demonstrating interest in iris activities with Region 14 or pursuing a career in horticulture, floriculture, landscaping, nursery production, or a related field. Deadline: April 2, 2010.

Fremont-Rideout Foundation. Six (6) $1,000.00 scholarships are available to seniors with a 3.0 GPA who have been accepted to study a health career curriculum at an accredited college, university or technical school. Deadline: April 2, 2010.

Yuba-Sutter Farm Bureau Scholarship Program. The goal of the scholarship program is to provide financial assistance to qualified, graduating high school students from the Yuba and Sutter counties, who have long-term career interests in agriculture, by supporting their college education. Open to high school seniors from Yuba and Sutter counties, the scholarship program awards one-time gifts of $500 or more to a minimum of four students annually. To qualify, the student must be a senior currently enrolled in a public or private high school in either Yuba or Sutter county, must have an average to above-average academic record, and plan to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited school. Further, the student or the student’s parent(s) must be a current member of Yuba-Sutter Farm Bureau and have been for at least one (1) year prior to the date of the student’s application. Applicants will be evaluated on their high school records, standardized test results, extracurricular activities, application and interview. Deadline: April 9, 2010.

Portuguese Historical & Cultural Society. Six scholarships will be offered - one for $1,000 and five for $500 each. Applicant must be of Portuguese descent with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Deadline: April 16, 2010.

Iota Sigma Chapter Grant. Iota Sigma is looking for quality students with a desire to have a career in education. A grant of $500 will be given in the spring to a worthy student meeting the qualifications listed on the application. Deadline: April 30, 2010.

Thomas A. Iverson, D.D.S., M.S. Scholarship. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior. Application must be a previous or current patient of Dr. Iverson. Minimum 3.5 GPA. Deadline: May 1, 2010.

WHS Booster Club Grant. The Wheatland High School Booster Club Grant applications are available to graduating seniors who will be attending an institution of higher learning after graduation from Wheatland High School. Recipients of military academy scholarships or other full scholarships are not eligible to apply. Applicants must have a 2.01 to 3.00 GPA. Deadline: May 5, 2010.

WHS Booster Club Scholarship. The Wheatland High School Booster Club Grant applications are available to graduating seniors who will be attending an institution of higher learning after graduation from Wheatland High School. Recipients of military academy scholarships or other full scholarships are not eligible to apply. Applicants must have a 3.01 to 4.00 GPA. Deadline: May 5, 2010.

WHS Faculty Scholarship. The Faculty Scholarship is available to graduating seniors who will either be attending a college/university, or a vocational/technical school upon graduation. The faculty wants to recognize graduating seniors who have shown themselves to be responsible and capable of succeeding. Deadline: May 5, 2010.

Mikel J. Moreno Scholarship. This scholarship is available to graduating seniors who will either be attending a college/university or vocational/technical school upon graduation. The Moreno/Rosser Family want to recognize graduating seniors who have been involved in athletics, shown themselves to be responsible, caring, capable of succeeding and courageous individuals. Minimum 2.0 GPA. Deadline: May 5, 2010.

Christopher Savedra Memorial Scholarship. Available to graduating seniors who have participated in WHS athletics. Minimum 2.7 GPA. Deadline: May 5, 2010.

Aurora Opal Valencia Memorial Scholarship. The Aurora Opal Valencia Memorial Scholarship is available to graduating seniors who will either be attending a college/university, or a vocational / technical school upon graduation. The faculty wants to recognize graduating seniors who have shown themselves to be responsible and capable of succeeding. The award will honor a student who will be entering the field of cosmetology. The award will be distributed upon proof of admission into a cosmetology/beauty school. The award consists of a $150 scholarship.  Download the application (74K PDF)Deadline: May 8, 2009.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR JUNIORS!  Nordstrom Scholarship Program. This scholarship is open to current high school juniors who reside in Northern California.  To be eligible, students must have a cumulative, unweighted GPA of at least 2.7, have participated in community or volunteer activities, be planning to apply for financial assistance to attend college and be eligible to attend a four-year college or university in the United States.  Five scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each will be paid in annual installments of $2,500 over four years.  A copy of the scholarship application can be downloaded at www.nordstrom.com/scholarship. Deadline: May 15, 2010.
